The onset of war in the summer of 1941 was a disaster for the Soviet Air Force. In a few weeks, faced by the onslaught of the Luftwaffe, most of the Soviet frontline aircraft were destroyed, and the casualty rate among the pilots was cripplingly high.

Yet the surviving few gained precious battle experience and they formed the core of the fighter force that turned the tables on the Germans and eventually won air superiority over the Eastern Front.

Many of these Soviet pilots are still alive today and in this book they vividly recall the air battles of 60 years ago.

Editorial : does an excellent job of sharing the stories and experiences of a handful of Soviet fighter pilots…filled with interesting stories of Soviet bureaucracy, air combat on the Eastern Front and personalized insight into the Soviet War experience… captivating and gripping… an easy and enjoyable read. I recommend this book to you. Pretty much a steal at this price - it pays for itself after you get your first book.. I picked this book up just to look through, but was quickly drawn in by the many different and easy to do ideas. For example, "I grabbed one of my long dress coats from my closet" instead of "I grabbed a long dress coat from the closet". Using it for our unit study on pilgrims and their time on the Mayflower. The 6th Regiment, composed of three thousand men, suffered 1,161 killed and over 4,656 wounded for total casualties of 5,817.
Over There is a very moving book. This book has many typographical errors and some scientific errors as well. At last a worthy tribute to the most technically innovative and ARTISTIC company that ever existed. All of that is not something I would expect a third grader to know, unless they have been diving.
