His recollections, accompanied by period photographs, are expertly annotated to provide necessary historical context and perspective, and further expanded by Brannen's son, who visited the scenes of combat in the 1990's and added new photos of those famous battlefields. The large colorful blocks of information scattered throughout the book that discuss ingredients, methods, techniques and background information are visually exciting, educational, and often, a little bit sassy!
I love the photography, the color choices and the idea that Mexican food can join any other type of food we make and enhance it. I'd already ordered this book before the Sept 11th disasters, but it's uncanny how much is relevant to what we're experiencing right now, and what we may have to come if there's a longterm war. Perfect. I'm sure there are many good ways to resolve this contradiction; it just would have been interesting to hear the authors themselves
