Sancho Garcés III apodado el Mayor o el Grande. Rey de Navarra, entre 1000-1035, de Sobrarbe y Ribagorza (1018-1035) y de Castilla (1029-1035). Contrajo matrimonio con Mayor de Castilla con quien tuvo cuatro hijos. Fue encargado de la tutela del conde García de Castilla. Sancho III se opuso a la expansión leonesa y pactó el matrimonio entre García de Castilla y Sancha de León con el fin de establecer la paz. Cuando García se dirigía a León para desposarse, fue asesinado. Sancho fue enterrado en el monasterio de San Salvador de Oña (Burgos) bajo el títuloSancius, Gratia Dei, Hispaniarum Rex.
